Illinois counties declared
disaster areas - Exceptions for affected policyholders

As a result of the flooding
disaster in areas of Illinois, the Director of the
Division of Insurance ordered that steps be taken
by insurance companies to address the disruption
felt by affected policyholders or claimants by
providing additional time for
them to pay premiums, have damaged properties repaired or take any other actions required by insurers with due dates during this period.
Accordingly, the RLI group of companies-RLI
Insurance Company, RLI Indemnity Company and Mt.
Hawley Insurance Company-has notified all of its
underwriting offices and units, and its claims
handling units, of the circumstances of this
weather disaster. All have been instructed to
provide the extensions of time outlined in the
Director's bulletin to policyholders affected by
the disaster.
These time extensions include:
- We will withdraw
any notice of cancellation or nonrenewal issued
to an affected policyholder on or after June 10,
2008, and will not issue any new cancellation or
nonrenewal notices until August 18, 2008, or
later. This will apply to affected properties
insured under similar circumstances.
- We will provide an
additional 60 days for any other
insurance-related request for information or
performance of an action to affected
policyholders or claimants before such request
or action will be due.
- We will allow
affected consumers an additional 60 days beyond
the otherwise applicable time period for
completion of repairs to an affected property.
- If there is any other time related
requirement under the contract or policy, or due
to an underwriting rule, we will take into
consideration the circumstances for any affected
policyholder in providing appropriate additional
time needed to respond due to the disaster.
Illinois policyholders are encouraged to
contact their insurance agents to let them know if
they have been affected by the flooding such that
they need an available extension of time to pay
their premiums or otherwise take an action related
