What are the driving school-specific criteria for RLI CDL insurance?

$10,000 minimum premium, 5 vehicles minimum. Fleets typically include: heavy/extra-heavy trucks and tractor trailers, RVs, dump trucks, buses or other vehicles requiring a CDL to operate. Multi-state operations are acceptable. Local operating radius is preferred. During operation of the vehicle, training should occur on a 1-on-1 basis.

What operations are ineligible for CDL driving school insurance?

Private passenger driver training, including remedial driver training and license preparation courses. Operations that have made alterations to their units in order to accommodate extra-seating inside the vehicle. All students and instructors must be seated in original manufactured seating unless the insured is able to provide verification from the third-party who performed the alterations to certify that these alterations were performed in a safe and structurally sound manner.

What additional requirements are needed for CDL driving school insurance?

Financial documents, including: Two most recent year-end audited financial statements, balance sheet and income statement. Current Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) for all drivers. For large driver pools, we can create a randomized sample from which we will collect MVRs. Complete an acceptable loss control phone or digital risk review.

RLI offers coverage throughout the U.S. with the following exceptions. Policies cannot be domiciled in or significantly operating in AK, HI, LA, MA, MI, MT, NM, NJ, NV or NY. Significantly operating in is defined as more than 20-25% of the exposure occurring in that location. Hired and non-owned only policies cannot be domiciled in the above listed states or in ME or TX. Not targeting risks domiciled in or primarily operating in South Florida (south of Lake Okeechoebee), South Texas (south of Houston), Los Angeles County in California, the San Francisco Bay Area (San Francisco, Marin and Alameda counties), Cook County in Illinois, or metro New Jersey. We will consider risks with incidental exposure in unfavorable venues if the risk is not domiciled there.

- We may be able to waive financial requirements if the annualized premium is under $250,000 with an average or above average loss control rating
