Requirements

Contractor-specific criteria

  • Contractor risks require insurance solutions are based on several factors, including but not limited to issuance of a non-renewal or cancellation notice, claim issues (frequency and/or severity), lack of industry experience/being a new venture and the need for dedicated loss control support.
  • $50,000 minimum premium
  • Only commercial-use mixed-fleets including private passenger vehicles, light/medium trucks, heavy trucks, extra-heavy trucks or tractor trailers, dump trucks and cement mixers.
  • Any modifications or permanently attached equipment must be disclosed on the submission such as: cranes, water pumps, claw arms and cement mixers.
  • Recycling/waste/sand/aggregate/dirt/gravel hauling
  • Explosive or hazmat exposure Higher-risk territories including South Florida, South Texas, Los Angeles County in California, San Francisco County in California or Cook County in Illinois No radius limitations (local, intermediate, long distance)
  • Can post filings (federal and state)
  • Business owners willing to work with the underwriter and loss control team to implement necessary requirements and recommendations with an emphasis on prioritizing safety and loss control

Hired and non-owned liability can be standalone or in addition to fleet coverage.

Ineligible risks

  • Mid-term submission looking for lower premium
  • Oil and gas related operations Accounts with large seasonal exposures Large, independent contractor exposures
  • Intermingled businesses unless we’re offering terms on all exposures
  • Risks with a clear history of egregious behavior surrounding loss control, safety and compliance

Submission clearance requirements

  • Application: Completed application including account narrative, strategy, market position, coverages and desired symbols. An RLI E&S Contractor Questionnaire is not required to clear, however the RLI application will be required during the underwriting process.
  • Effective date: risk must be within 90-days or less of the effective date
  • Loss Runs: 4 years of currently valued hard copy loss runs valued within the past 90 days or less of the effective date (5th year may be required after file review)
  • Vehicle schedule: excel is preferred including license state, garage city/state, make, model, year, VIN, specific use, seating capacity if applicable, outline modifications, describe permanently attached equipment, and ACV/stated amount

Additional requirements

  • Financials: may be requested, including the two most recent year-end audited financial statements, balance sheet and income statement on an accrual basis
  • Current MVRs for all drivers
  • Acceptable loss control inspection or digital risk review, completed and reviewed by our internal loss control team – Insured to complete: E&S - Digital Risk Review
